Mulching provides soil cover to block unwanted plant growth and helps increase water retention. It also adds organic matter to the soil over time to feed the microbiology of a garden. Natural wood chip mulch is preferred over commonly found red or black mulch as it is pure tree material and contains no construction debris or chemical dyes.
